on RAINBOW JUICE

My favorite juice recipe is easy peezy:
1 Pineapple (cut the whole thing at once, but only use half)
2 small Apples
1/2 Beet (don't use a whole one, fresh beets can paralyze vocal chords, true story)
2-3 large Carrots

Clean & cut all fruits, zip them through your juicer, voila!

These fruits happen to make a really pretty rainbow pattern of pink, red, orange, and yellow when juiced together. Once you stir up the juice, it turns a lovely pink-red color. Best to drink fresh juice within the first 15 minutes to get all the healthy enzymes and other important health stuff with names that I do not know.

Bottoms up :)

ON Best Friends, Late Nights & Busy Days

Just as I'd imagined for last weekend, I truly thought this weekend would be low-key. I was yet again wrong. Instead of catching up on work in my pajamas all weekend, I found myself to be busier than ever, and with people I love.

On Friday night, one of my nearest and dearests and I finally saw each other after five months. We got Five Napkin Burger (because, hello, delish) and chatted and caught up. Then we went to this magical land of cookies, and sadly I was far too full to indulge, but holy moly my oh my, they looked so good.

p.s. i assure you that we are not spotted.. that is just the dirt on the mirror.. eek.

On Saturday, I spent the morning taking pictures of pups for some social media volunteer work with Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue. This group lives up to its name - both the humans and the dogs.

Then my very bestest friend in the world, Kelly, came to visit me and we took on the day. We had lunch, went to Central Park, popped by an arts-and-crafts fair, wandered around, bought lemonade from a legit little kid lemonade stand (who knew they had those in new york city?!), and met up with my cousin and his beautiful wife, who also happened to be in town. Other friends got mixed in and we then somehow ended up staying out way, way past when I normally stay out until. I'm fairly certain I crashed somewhere around 2:30 in the morning.
kelly fully caught me basking in the glory of the sun..!

Today has been a day dedicated to running errands, and learning a bunch of material for an audition tomorrow. My most favorite person helped me with the scenes (true story: audition material is called 'sides' and I almost wrote that but then I realized barely any of you would know what the heck I meant) and my momma helped me with the music via our iphones. I got frustrated as heck with both of my lovely helpers but it's only because I love them so much. I'll bet you're all super jealous that you're not in my close knit circle of people I yell at because they mean the most to me. I'm an artist, what can I say.

I hope your weekend was just as wonderful and unexpected in the best ways!

ON Josie Maran (Or; Hello My Name is Kerry & I'm A Sephora Addict)

Here's the first thing you need to know: I have one of those Sephora VIP cards. You know, they're like a points system. A point for every dollar you spend.

No, wait. HERE'S the first thing you need to know: I never shopped at Sephora, really had very little makeup, absolutely no "products". But then I went on tour and met my twin. Ahem, hi twin. She passed on her addiction and I happily accepted the drug that is Sephora.

Fast forward four years and I've got so many points on this card that the cashiers are always a little impressed and/or taken aback. I've had a variety of responses. "But don't you want any of the samples you can get with the points?" You know what the answer has always been? Nope. Nah. Not really. Got anything else? I guess I have some sanity left because I could never see getting even more makeup to add to the pile I just bought, free or not. So the points were in the four number range (you guys, I'm telling you, it's insane) and I got to the register at Sephora in Beverly Hills, and the guy who came with me had run away in fear after a few minutes of being there (I mean, he didn't run but he sure did sneak out and go to a very manly non-make up store to wait for me) and so now I was alone. Alone in Sephora. Why you might as well just have me give over my credit card to a random stranger. I had gotten in line and left it multiple times, thinking of something else that I just needed. Finally, there I am at the front and the question comes: "Do you want to use any of your points on the items shown here?"and I spied the Josie Maran products - something I've genuinely been wanting to try - and I replied back with a firm and overly excited YES!

Fast forward two months, I hadn't used them. They'd traveled 3,000 miles back with me to New York City and now we had a bond. So I felt I owed it to them to have them live up to their potential. And I'll tell you what: totally worth saying yes to these bad boys. And by bad boys, I mean samples. Good for you, good for your skin, good for the earth, almost all vegan, and animal friendly/cruelty free. That 100% Argon Oil is no joke, I tell you. After the first night I used it, I woke up with unbelievably soft and bright skin. Do any of you use these? Should I buy the full versions? I mean, my Sephora point count is now much lower than it had been.. so.. seems worthy.. ;)

ON Ma Peche

Last Friday night, my pal Rian came to town. When he does this, he tends to buy me meals and, well, I don't mind. This time, we went to one of the Momofuko restaurants, called Ma Peche. The only other time I was at one of these places was... with Rian. True story. He's an adventurous eater.

He ate a lot of things that I'm fairly certain other people would be excited to hear about, but I mainly blocked out the words just in case I didn't want to hear any of them. I, on the other hand, did the thing that every waiter loves and said "I'm vegan, what can I eat?" but in this case, he said they have a vegan option! That's just not on the menu! Secret vegan food! And it was delish. DELISH. Tofu style gnocchi like things (see? I'm such a food snob!) with edamame, shiitake mushrooms, and some sort of spicy sauce.

And then. Then came the cookies. From the Milk bar. And they were so not vegan. I cannot talk to you about the Compost cookie. I just cannot. I had a very loud, continuous reaction to this cookie. Lots of "WHAT IS THIS COOKIE?" happened. Classy broad, I am. I sure do love when Rian comes to town :) Thank you for the meal, friend!

p.s. sorry for the lame iphone photos that all look yellow. even the word 'blog' makes R roll his eyes so I was very sneaky, as you do.

ON the Most Delicious Dinner Ever

Blog readers, friends, internet peoples: do not become alarmed. This will not become the type of blog with recipes on the regular. I am not a recipe gal. This here meal above that you see? No recipe. None. So rest easy, friends. My blog is not about to get themed up or anything. Great, let's move on.

SO I MADE THIS! For dinner. Like a DIY, but you can eat it. It's called 'cooking', you guys ever hear of it? Anyway, I had dinner with my best girls a couple of weeks ago and two of us ordered the same dish, only I ordered mine sans chicken, add eggplant, please. But the base of it was the same, and I said, "umm, Kerry, you can totes make this!" and then we had a good laugh, me and myself. But I did!
Okay, here is what was in it and how I made it, but this is not a recipe!

Gnocchi
Cherry Tomatoes*
Asparagus
Brussel Sprouts
Just a toss of Marinara Sauce**

Okay, make the gnocchi. If you don't know how to boil water, stop reading right now, let the dream die. In a separate frying pan, heat up the brussel sprouts (mine were already cooked, so if you have to cook yours, sorry you are on your own). On the side, you should rinse the tomatoes and then chop them in half on a cutting board. This is super fun and it's a good time to pretend you have your own cooking show. Great, okay, now they are both magickally done so throw the brussellys into the gnocchi and let them all become good friends. Then in that same frying pan (do not get a new one! you'll have to wash two!) put the chopped-in-half 'maters and asparagus (again, this had been cooked previously) and stir 'em all up together. This makes a fun sizzling noise due to the tomato juices. When that's all done, toss those bad boys into the big pot with the gnocchis and the brussels and mix it all up and then throw in some tomato sauce. Scoop some into a bowl and eat it. That's it! You did it! You cooked! Celebrate by not doing the dishes and waiting until someone else does them for you. Enjoy!

*At first, I wrote CHEERY tomatoes and I wanted to leave it because it delighted me ever so. But, you know, spelling, blah blah. But I want to note that you may select cheery tomatoes should you prefer them over cherry.

**If you happen to have more than a toss left in your sauce jar, feel free to add more. Some of us only had a toss left for with which to toss.

On The Renegade Craft Fair (Holiday Style)

This past weekend, one of my all time bff's & I went to the Renegade Craft Fair.
For those who don't know, this fair is like Etsy.. but in person. Etsy sellers bring their goods and sell in person. Will wonders ever cease? Aside from this glorious land of Etsy, it was Nicole's first visit to Williamsburg! As a devoted fan of le 'burg, I was ever so delighted to bring her there.

After the fair, we strolled a few feet and found ourselves in the middle of Smorgasburg.
Yes, it's true, after rows and rows of Etsy sellers.. we ended up in food heaven.
Unfortunately, I have no photos of this part of the day as my hands were, ahem, full.
(That vegan truffle shot up there? That same place made me an amazing vegan grilledcheese.)
Also, how gorgeous are those bowls from Fisheye Brooklyn? The most gorgeous ever, I know.
Nic went home with a couple of those and one or two other items. I shall show you what I purchased in another post. Suspense! No, not really. Just need to take pictures of them first ;)
I love things like this. I get all giddy and jump up and down a lot and practice restraint in not buying every single thing that I see. Which is really hard, if I do say so myself.

Have you ever been to the Renegade Craft Fair? Are you going in another city?

On Lately

Lately, there have been empanadas, time with best friends, revisiting memories (may I just say that I make a darn good scrapbook? cause I make a darn good scrapbook!), a new read passed on to me by a pal, menus and wallpaper that seemed to be filled with magick gold flecks, and holy moly vegan food. Southern style vegan food, a massive plate of it, at that. Delish.

What's been your lately? Do tell. xo
