on MR. & MRS. MONACO TURN TWO

This past week marked the second year of marriage for my sister and brother-in-law. That's a long time, if you ask me. Because when you're married to someone, you're married to them every single day, all day, nonstop. Think about it (non-married people.. you married people can laugh either in understanding or mockery). Sometimes I just say the "M" word and get really uncomfortable. Recently, my favorite male person said it once or twice himself (I did not even know he knew the word), and understandably we didn't speak for a few days after that. I'm pretty sure I replied with  "you've thought about what?". So you can imagine my impressed-ness over anyone being married at all, let alone multiple years.

The second year of marriage calls for a cotton gift. I told my sister that I would give them a blogtton gift instead. It's true, I am incredibly generous. No, I will get them a gift, but first I must scour etsy and the like. In the meantime: blogtton! Both of them are very weird, which seems right when getting married. Find someone as weird as you, who puts up with you even when you are whiny (Amy) or making fun of the other person's little sister (Matt), who will go to Target with you, and other places. But mostly, just someone weird who likes you a whole lot. They have that down.

Love you both very much. And sometimes your cats. Happy Anniversary!
Love, the sister, Henry Elliot, and Layla June. (they helped write this. woof.)

ON Meeting Lauren Graham (OR; OMG LORELAI!)

You guys. Internet. Friends. Strangers. There are some very crystal clear facts about me that I'd say nearly 99% of people who encounter me come to learn right away. 1. I love Dogs. Mine in particular, but all dogs really, and usually more than people. 2. I'm a design freak. I may ask to re-organize your closet before I know your last name. 3. I love Gilmore Girls, and Lauren Graham specifically.

So you can imagine what happened when my sister announced that we were off to her book signing. Oh, I'm sorry, what? And will God Himself be there, too?! Gilmore Girls holds a special place in my heart for getting me through my first year living in NYC (totally alone). I would come home, put on a DVD and let it run while I made dinner, did work, whatever. It felt like the whole cast lived with me. Last year, I met Alexis Bledel at the first preview of her play in the city. I was there as a guest of the theatre so I couldn't freak out or really say much more to her than "Do you want a beer?". Yes, that is what I said to Alexis Bledel. I can hear gentlemen everywhere saying "But that's what I was gonna say!" Too late boys, been done.

Lauren (or as my mom is now calling her, "Lo Lo", bffs obvs) said a lot of things that registered with me that night. She talked about being a storyteller, how acting and writing are so similar yet so different, what made her leave NYC for LA.. and on and on. But she said one thing that I felt I had to write down to remember: "You just have to do something and then you can fix it later."

Or, in other words, just start doing whatever it is you're thinking about. You can always go back later and fine tune it or start again or whatever. But waiting until it's a perfect idea, or you're a perfect person sure as heck means you will definitely never do it.

Oh, Lauren. You wise woman, you. Jokes aside, I really do feel a kinship with her, and I can't wait until we work together and I can bring this picture to her (after we have formed our close bond) and we can laugh about it. Yes, I've already got that planned.

Have you ever met one of your inspirations? Who was it? What happened? Do tell. xo

P.S. Make sure you enter the Dollars for Doggies giveaway and the Viesso Sake Bomb giveaway (ends tomorrow)!

ON This Afternoon

Hi internet :) Pardon the blogging delay whilst my sister is in town. (Isn't whilst such a good word?! One of my favs.) When I come back, I promise to regale you of tales of how we met Lauren Graham last night. LAUREN GRAHAM. Oh I know. I know.

See ya on the flip side, xo.

ON National Sibling Day! Hurrah! (Or; embarassing photos for all)

Did you know today is National Sibling Day? I'll bet you do, you savvy internet superstars.
This is my one and only sibling, Amy. As you can see, she is seemingly normal and pleasant, while I got (almost) all the weird. But this is how it's always been, so it works pretty okay for us. I mean, wouldn't you want a Christmas photo like the one above? Do note, that's from this past holiday season.. figured I should clarify since we look like we're 15. Yes, that's right, she looks like a child, too. See? So much in common.

Now, if I could only get Henry & LaLa to take such adorable photos. Or, you know, not try to eat each other. Hmm.. :) xo

ON sister dearest

happy birthday to my sissy!

she thinks getting older is a bummer, but i think it's a privilege.
she also thinks i'm pretty crazy, but seems to love me anyway.
and i'm slowly turning her into me (don't tell her, okay?)
by teaching her about bad food things to avoid
& turning her into a rescue pet mama (hi marlon brando!)
she hasn't noticed yet, but this may tip her off.. hm.
i'll have to re-think my plan, i suppose.

happy birthday, sister dear.
you're pretty weird, too, but i love you anyway.

On Marlon Brando

as you can see, he is one handsome fella.
he is quite well read (all of those books are his) and teaches a proper pounce position.
he has a tower to climb on that is quite higher than my head
and showed me where he likes to retreat for alone time (with Mr. Mouse as his bodyguard).

Marlon Brando is my sister and brother-in-law's three month old kitten.
they were not cat people. they weren't even animal people.
they mocked me endlessly for the fierce love and devotion i have for my Henry Bear.
and then my sister went to an animal shelter with a pal and left with an application,
for little MarleyBoo had stolen her heart, and just like that: they became cat people.
my sister is obsessed. past obsessed. she is also expanding her shopping obsession to him:
this tiny man has more possessions than i currently have.

welcome to the family, MarleyB.
i may sneeze a ton around you, and you may never meet your cousin Henry,
but i sure do think you're swell and am delighted to be your aunt.

p.s. adopt! adopt, adopt, adopt your pets :)
lots of other babies as amazing as MB are waiting for your love.
