ON Best Friends, Late Nights & Busy Days

Just as I'd imagined for last weekend, I truly thought this weekend would be low-key. I was yet again wrong. Instead of catching up on work in my pajamas all weekend, I found myself to be busier than ever, and with people I love.

On Friday night, one of my nearest and dearests and I finally saw each other after five months. We got Five Napkin Burger (because, hello, delish) and chatted and caught up. Then we went to this magical land of cookies, and sadly I was far too full to indulge, but holy moly my oh my, they looked so good.

p.s. i assure you that we are not spotted.. that is just the dirt on the mirror.. eek.

On Saturday, I spent the morning taking pictures of pups for some social media volunteer work with Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue. This group lives up to its name - both the humans and the dogs.

Then my very bestest friend in the world, Kelly, came to visit me and we took on the day. We had lunch, went to Central Park, popped by an arts-and-crafts fair, wandered around, bought lemonade from a legit little kid lemonade stand (who knew they had those in new york city?!), and met up with my cousin and his beautiful wife, who also happened to be in town. Other friends got mixed in and we then somehow ended up staying out way, way past when I normally stay out until. I'm fairly certain I crashed somewhere around 2:30 in the morning.
kelly fully caught me basking in the glory of the sun..!

Today has been a day dedicated to running errands, and learning a bunch of material for an audition tomorrow. My most favorite person helped me with the scenes (true story: audition material is called 'sides' and I almost wrote that but then I realized barely any of you would know what the heck I meant) and my momma helped me with the music via our iphones. I got frustrated as heck with both of my lovely helpers but it's only because I love them so much. I'll bet you're all super jealous that you're not in my close knit circle of people I yell at because they mean the most to me. I'm an artist, what can I say.

I hope your weekend was just as wonderful and unexpected in the best ways!

ON Babies & Target & Shoes, Oh My

Last Saturday, I had the darn good fortune of my best friend, and my cousin, both telling me at the same time that they would be going to Target that day. With a little magick, I somehow got to be in the wondrous land of Target with both of these beautiful women AND two of my cousin's kids, my sweet little godbabies.

And we went shoe shopping. Needless to say, it was very effective birth control.

Jokes aside, I love all of these people so much and, well, I just love Target so much. It's pretty rare that I get to go to Target, fyi, I'm not totally crazy and definitely wouldn't go every weekend if I lived in suburbia (yes I would). It's also important to note that I downright started salivating over those tiny baby shoes. Also, can we discuss how adorable these children are? That little girl is a firecracker, a total crack up, and five going on sixteen. Her little brother is quiet, focused, and (almost) four going on seventy. Also, you may note that I'm actually in a picture on my blog for once! This is my true suburban look: random, old clothes, hair up in a bun, no makeup.. ah, perfection. You're welcome, internet.

ON yesterday wins (warning: BABIES & PUPPIES ahead)

Wednesday was wonderful.

It started with an audition with one of my favorite casting directors. Followed by being offered to sign at a new agency (!!!). This alone would have made Wednesday so very wonderful.

But then.. then there were babies. BABIES! Twins, in fact. Cutie, sweetie, lovey, funny, giggly babies. A little boy and a little girl who just stole all of our hearts away last summer. It's amazing to watch them grow, and to see how very much a boy the little boy is, and how very much a girl the little girl is. Best friends were there, too, and we coo-ed and commented on how baby feet are most excellent.

Then LaLa and I got a lot of work done from my office (read: my bed) and I got the giggles myself over how very much I love my new job and love working from home and love my life. She got her own puppy giggle over the flowy dress I had on (which I tried to capture for you in that photo up there, she was wrapping herself up in the skirt portion, I just could. not. deal. with the cuteness).

After we finished our work, in an oh-my-god-will-we-finish style, we hopped a cab to Aunt Julie's where all of LaLa's other Aunties were waiting to meet her. Also, this was a girl's night dinner party, but mostly La decided it was about her. See the picture above of two of her Auntie's looking down? That's because they were talking to her. We ate mostly healthy, delicious things.. but those cupcakes did us in. We never saw them coming. And we tried to do an outfit photo for you but I'll tell you what, an oversized jean button down mixed with a flowy dress, does not make for the best photo opt. But in person? In person this outfit was getting rave reviews. Someday I'll be the type of blogger that photographs outfits daily but today I am not.

This whole week is just so magickal. I am a grateful girl.

ON pomodoro

Sometimes all you need are your best friends, who've both been around since you before you could write in cursive, since before you'd ever been kissed, one arrived before pre-school even did, those kind of friends, you know. And you add into the mix a massive bowl of pasta so delicious that it was dug into before a 'pretty' photo could be snapped. And wine. And the upper west side of New York City. And the freshly dyed purple hair on your head. And you talk for hours, and you remind each other of the amazing creatures that you are whom deserve the kinds of things we don't always allow ourselves to have and you make fun of each other a little bit and call each other out and share pictures of the latest boys that make your hearts pound just a little bit faster, because these are the ways we meet the other people in our lives now, through screens. And you're so freaking different it's insane but it makes sense, you'd all been practicing accepting each other before you realized you were separate humans. And you listen to their voices, the melodic way they dance around you, and you feel like you're home. And all of these adds up to a wonderful night.

ON being best friends

If we were best friends, we'd spend a lot of time in coffee shops and tea houses.
We'd go to flea markets and thrift shops and turn old things into new things.
We'd sometimes not see each other for a little while, so I could get in my much needed down time.
But you'd know this has nothing to do with you, and you'd graciously give me that space.
We'd go to museums and libraries and book stores and water fronts and parks.
We would, without a doubt, go to the beach. As much as possible. Plus a little more.
If we were best friends, we'd take a long roadtrip. Maybe travel together to Europe. See things.
If we were best friends, we'd know each other's secrets. Know the stories of the things we did at 16.
And 14. And 22. And 18. And all the ones in between. We'd laugh about them, eyes rolling, mouths wide open.
If you were my best friend, you'd know that my Henry pup is my whole heart.
You'd know I'm an actress and have been ever since I was little. You'd know I love being in recording studios, whether it's for voiceover or for singing songs, penned from my hand or someone else's.
You'd know that I'm vegan and that I forget to eat more often than I should.
If you were my best friend, you'd know I'm a firm believer in equal rights - for humans and animals.
You'd know I'm on a mission to save every shelter dog, and to educate everyone along the way.
If you were my best friend, you'd still love me even when I carry  kerry on about this.
You'd know that I am passionate by nature, and fiercely determined. That I'm loud sometimes, quiet others.
You'd know I feel things deeply, write this little blog, meditate twice a day.
You'd know I have a serious love for interior design and need my surroundings to be aesthetically pleasing.
You'd know I had a princess pink colored room - at age 17. Then light green, yellow, now pink again.
You'd know I wear a tiara on my head for inspiration, to remind me how precious I am. You'd have one, too.
If I was your best friend, I would love you with every fiber of my being.
I'd call you out on your bullshit and listen silently when you need to talk.
I'd probably let you down from time to time, agree to go to something and then cancel last minute.
I'd ask you what's inspiring you lately, what makes your heart beat faster, what your dreams are.
I'd encourage you so much that you might think I'm life-coaching you (but you'd know I completed my life coach training so this wouldn't be too confusing for you). I'd believe in you so much.
If I was your best friend, you'd have to talk me into going out to bars or parties, but I'd be glad you did.
I'd tell you that you deserve so much more, when you were crying on the phone, heartbroken.
I'd mean it, too. But I'd love you still, even when you went back for another dose of hurt.
I would know that it's up to you to learn in your own time, the way I do, in mine.
If I was your best friend, I would make you homemade valentines day cards. Send holiday photos of Hen.

If we were best friends we would take on this world together, side by side, hand in hand.
Knowing there's nothing like a good friend, a best friend, to make your world a little brighter.
