On The Coolest of Cool

That there stylish couple is my Grandpa & Grandma.

Now I know what you're thinking: surely, you cannot be related to such class, such charm.

But it's true. I am. Augie and Anne Marie knew what was up.

I love that my Grandpa is looking away in this photo, in mid-laugh over something else.

That reminds me of me. The way I'm always buzzing about, eyes dancing around.

And I love how my Gram is owning that photo. Just shining.

Her wide eyes and confidence? Totally blessed with those. My grandma had this fierceness to her; a brash boldness. She had a mouth on her and gave total sass. She taught me to tap dance in her kitchen and made me egg salad sandwiches, always with shell. There is so much of her in the women in our family. "Okay, Anne Marie", we'll call out the one who's being pushy, or loud. 

I don't know how old they were here. Maybe in their 30's? And I don't know where they were.

But I'd like to think they're out for New Year's with their best pals, having the time of their lives.

I'd like to think they lived their very best lives. That they knew things I don't know yet.

I get jealous of my friends who still have grandparents alive, who get to talk with them as adults.

But I see, very clearly, how they are still so alive within my family members and myself.

I feel their presence and guidance when I need it. And for that, I'm grateful.
