When I'm curating collections of images for personal inspiration, for blogging or for my work on other blogs, I am always drawn to light. Which makes sense because that's how it is in real life, too.

When I first enter a room, I'm immediately assessing how the light gets in. What are the windows like? When will the sun be there to spend time with me? I thrive off of light, and have to have it.

When I meet a new person, it's the same thing. Where's the light? How do they shine? What lights them up? (Does anybody else do this? Is it really just me?) There's something about seeking out the light within someone, while seeking out the light in the natural world, that fuels me.

Summer is slowly starting to descend, and as it does, I'm trying to soak up as much light, sun, time outdoors, water, sand, relaxing, and summer-only things that I can. And I'd surely spend any of these summer days in any of these spaces.

on TAKE A DIP

oh don't mind me. i'm just lusting after some time spent poolside.

if you need me, i'll be brainstorming on how to get paid to travel and spend time at places like this.

HGTV? Travel Channel? I'm looking at you two, thanks in advance.

ON california-ing

some more tidbits of LA for you beautiful people.

first: yes, i did go to the library within my first week here. don't act like it's not cool.

urth cafe (which is where that delicious first picture came from)

& aroma are both excellent for people watching and warm beverage sipping.

the grove, griffith observatory, hiking, the Hollywood sign.. I'm such a tourist!

my apologies for looking like i'm dying in the hiking photos. this is because i forgot my inhaler.

(if you have asthma, you just went "oof" upon reading 'hiking' & 'no inhaler'.)

as for the looking like death in the picture with those handsome gents?

that's just a case of the no-makeups. no excuse for that one. best blog ever, right? ;)

ON the flip side

so the other day, i walked out of the house i'm staying at,

and saw the gorgeous row of palm trees staring back at me.

and i said to myself 'self, we must have a photo of that right now!'

and self and i took out our phone, and took a picture!

and then we looked at it and realized the camera had been set on reverse,

and what i'd taken was that picture on the left - of myself.

so i giggled a bit, because i am six years old, and stayed where i was, taking the pic on the right.

thus, the flip side. literally what was behind the camera and in front of the camera, in photo form.

the picture of me makes me laugh because i really do make that smirk-ish face all the time.

like i am constantly poised to judge or make a smart remark. which, um, you know, i do.

also because i am not just like a six year old in thoughts, but also in size, and so my sunglasses look 

SO BIG on my face and yet they are tiny, not-oversized frames, in real life.

in related news: PALM TREES!!! it's now non-jacket weather here (70's woohoo!)

and i am surely beginning to remember what it is i love best about this place.

may i just say that you're all pretty darn beautiful??

On Polaroid Travels

sometimes i daydream about where else i would want to be right now.. 

 maybe in disney world .. or perhaps disneyland..

could hop a plane to san francisco .. or maybe off to LA..

or in a cozy chair, my favorite one in the whole world .. or fast asleep in one backstage..

maybe riding bikes in portland .. or at the best bookstore in denver..

 i'd fancy to be lying by the water in miami .. or indulging at Real Food Daily..

or looking at beautiful coastal views in chicago .. or by the santa monica pier..

although if we're being honest, there's few places i'd rather be .. than right next to this little boy.

the good news with playing this game is that when i'm thinking of where i'd jet off to,

i get to remember how many incredible places i've been lucky enough to see.

and instead of lusting after everywhere else, i find myself counting my blessings. giving thanks.

and then somehow, it comes to be, that the more i give thanks, the more exciting life gets,

the more adventures i'm given, and the more i remember that wonderful truth:

that we are always exactly where we are meant to be.
